Welcome to the Espresso Idiot's technology page. This page will be dedicated to the technology that has grown up around espresso and the production of high quality shots as regularly as possible. Obviously as an art, espresso production has a considerable human element that cannot be overlooked, but just as you cannot make a silk purse from a sows ear, you can't make an espresso without the necessary machine to force the water and steam through the ground beans. Thus, you will have to get some technology if you want to make espresso at home.
"You sure can get right into your espresso technology. You can take this too far and it can end up costing a fortune. To a point new technology will make a difference to the finished product. The law of diminishing returns applies to espresso technology, as much as anything else and you will need to decide how much you are comfortable spending on getting as close as you can to the perfect espresso shot at home. As a general rule of thumb you should decide how much you are prepared to spend and then shop around to see what you can find on the market where you live.
